Scientific Research

The role of ENEA-INMRI in Metrology Research

The Institute is active both in scientific research and as a service provider. The areas of activity in scientific research include measurements methods and instruments for quantities related to the use of ionizing radiation.

Taken together, the activity and scientific services provided to the country by ENEA-INMRI, as part of its institutional mandate, include:

  • Research and development for the realization of the national standards for measurements of ionizing radiation in multiple areas of interest. These primary standards necessitate an international validation through periodic "inter-comparisons";
  • Research and development on the reliability and the standardization of methods and instruments for the measurements of quantities related to ionizing radiation for medical use and radiation protection;
  • The Institute is also involved in several international scientific research programs.
